A little about me...

Hey Folks,

My name is Alexander Isadore Hoffman.  I was born in Boston MA on May 10th 1988.  I am a saxophonist for The Ride.  My music does not stop there though... I am an active member of the Tufts Javanese Gamelan.  Right now in The Ride I play the Alto saxophone.  If not for financial restraints I would be playing every type of wood-wind instrument I could get.  I am excited to write about all type of good music and interesting musical ideas.  Hopefully you will get to know a little more about me through my upcoming posts about music.

For my first post I would like to discuss a new release by  The Bad Plus.  I saw them live at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston on Friday April 3rd.  I would not say that it was the best plus show Iv'e seen (that might be because of the large impersonal venue) but there were some moments of beuaty. The highlight of the show was the trio and Wendy Lewis playing Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd.

This amazing rendition is completed by the vocal harmony of Reid Anderson (Bass) and Wendy Lewis.  The out-of-time piano line during the chorus somehow makes the piece feel more whole. Ethan Iverson is able to stay in the pocket comfortably while playing away from the rest of the band while adding to the natural feel of the song.  Until next time, happy listening.
